Free Funeral Society

The Free Funeral Service Society (FFSS) of Myanmar, founded in 2001, provides free funeral services to poor people unable to bury or cremate family members. It is an independent civil society organization, which is funded only by donations. On an average day FFSS receives fifty calls for funerals and since its inception it has helped to fund over 100,000 funerals in Myanmar consisting of both burials and cremation. The work of FFSS on a typical day relies on volunteers to take bodies of the recently deceased from their homes to a local crematory and helps to facilitate funerals.
