Bethanie Mitchell is an American documentary photographer, photojournalist, multimedia producer, and experienced photographic educator currently based in Seattle, Washington. She attended both Seattle University as well as Syracuse University where her studies focused on photography, journalism, and international development. She works on projects and assignments while also teaching photography workshops and classes.
She has followed historical and social events in Myanmar (Burma) from its time under the dictatorship into its opening. Most recently she has documented stories about the migration out of war torn Syria, the current conflict in Iraq, and contemporary issues in her current home of Seattle, Washington. She also works with Sipa Press Photo Agency, and her work has appeared in print and online publications. She is available for assignments globally.
When she isn't working on photographic projects she is a dedicated athlete. A love for training in open water swimming and running, she also finds time to keep expanding her understanding of the world. She speaks basic Burmese, forgets the French she studied, and is now studying Arabic.
